OH! It’s going to be a sparkling night on the red carpet

Oscar 2012
The Oscar fever is on
!!! Everyone nominated will be having butterflies in the stomach and they are also trying to make the night most memorable by wearing their best dress and jewelry (All eyes will be on them). We all know Oscars are the BIGGEST NIGHT in Hollywood and it is not just about Big Films! Big Stars!! It is also about BIG FASHION & JEWELRY!!!

This is not the first red carpet event of the year! We already have the Golden Globes, SAG Awards BAFTA Awards etc where there was a long parade of women in glamorous gowns and expensive jewelry starting in January but the Oscars is the GRAND FINALE. So, as we all know the best is always saved for last so the night is definitely going to be spectacular!!!

The de rigueur as always is going to be the colorful gowns that show some skin and classical looks from Hollywood's Golden Age. Some usual show stoppers like Angelina Jolie will share the stage with new stars like Rooney Mara and Viola Davis.

Ask a designer and they will say just like designer Marc Bouwer that The Oscars are the biggest fashion show on the planet. It is because this event is relayed live and is seen by numerous people across the globe. Even the after the event is over it continues to be a part of discussion for some time to come with the snapshots of the red carpet jewelry and fashion appearing in various newspapers, magazines and now with technical advancement even on the Web and Mobile phones.

Expensive Jewelry at Oscar Award

As for Bouwer’s Oscar predictions it is going to be white ivory and even bright colors. While designer David Meister feels that bright colors will also be there as they may look more eye-catching in the photographs. But on the whole it is going to be a night where everyone wants to look beautiful, pretty and sexy.

A jewelry expert and stylist, Michael O’Connor says that one of the main trends that we are expected to see in this edition of Oscars is bold colored gemstones. This trend has been seen throughout the award season red carpets. Even in the Nineties gemstone jewelry was very popular and the craze for these colored gems only increased with bigger diamonds on the red carpet. It is expected that the Tanzanite and diamond earrings as well as sapphire earrings may be a popular choice of the celebrities.

The another prominent jewelry style that is going to be seen at the event is statement mega drop earrings, which is definitely the go-to trend for this year and is popping up everywhere. Expect these earrings to be large and practically touch the collarbone.

As for the wrist again there will be statement cuffs. Vintage designs with chunky cuff styles and geometric shapes will be popular. An interesting trend we might want to notice is diamond accented watches. Watches just aren’t for men anymore and the latest pieces for women will contain diamonds and delicate straps.

We shouldn’t be seeing as many traditional square cufflinks. The trend now is for interesting patterns in different contemporary metals such as black titanium.

A rare 15th Century diamond crystal ring found

A very rare 15th Century diamond and gold ring that was found in March 2008 by John Steven in South Leicestershire, England will soon go off for sale at Bonhams in London.

15th century diamond ring

Estimated to sell for about $24,000 to $32000, the ring features rough diamond. The auction house Bonhams bring light to the fact that diamond cutting was very rare 500 years ago. Diamonds are the hardest of the minerals, and thus cutting them requires great precision and special cutting tools, During that time not many craftsmen were known to use diamond cutting technique and tools.

The band of the ring is inscribed by Gothic script "amour mi tien" (love keep me).

Jean Ghika, Director of the Jewellery Department comments, "Bonhams is delighted to offer such a rare surviving 15th century diamond ring. It is a superb example of its type and was lying undiscovered for over five hundred years."

Bejeweled Mona Lisa!

Now here’s an interesting piece of news. A Chinese Jewelry Collector has made a replica of Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’. And although this time too the replica is on canvas, only not with colors but with real gemstones.

The Jeweler has used 100,000 carats of jewelry in this art piece. Took him about 5 years to make this one of a kind jewelry painting and 30 years to collect gemstones for it.

How to wear Jewelry?

Although we women love to wear jewelry, we many times forget that our jewelry is supposed to complement our looks, accentuate our features but not over power. It is important that we remember that and wear jewelry strictly as per the occasion or one can turn into a fashion disaster.

If worn correctly, jewelry has the power of turning even a simple casual outfit into absolutely chic one.

Below are some tips that would help you look stylish

  • Never Overdo. One of the most important things that one need to take care of while wearing jewelry is never to overdo. Jewelry can make you look gaudy if you overdo it. Don’t wear your jewelry as if you have to show off all that you have got.
  • Be Consistent. Be consistent with one jewelry look at a time. If you want to wear some big bold pendant, never wear some delicate earrings or rings with. If you want to go bold with your jewelry, then let that be theme of all jewelry pieces whether they be rings, earrings or bangles.
  • Don’t mismatch two styles. While you can mix-match your jewelry and wear it and this could be a pretty stunning idea. But, don’t try to mix two different styles, they just never work. Say if you are wearing a cocktail ring, then let that alone be the eye catcher. Wearing other small and delicate rings would only take away from its glamour.

  • Also when you want to wear multiple chains or necklaces, never wear a thin chain and a thick one together.
